Fiction Friday

Stella considered leaving a letter for her grandchildren or maybe writing a book, a memoir. She would lay everything out, telling about her life before meeting their grandfather.

She had been limber when she first met Stan Jones and he had marveled at her flexibility up until the day he died, ten years ago. In fact, even now at 75, she was still limber.

This morning while drying off after her shower, a silly thought popped into her head. She had caught a glimpse of her naked self in the mirror and gave the reflection a once over, “Not bad…

To Ease My Mind

I’ve come to this place
to ease my mind

to smile at the chatter of birds
to feel a tender breeze
and listen to the silence
of tall trees

it’s as if this place
is here just for me

to soothe my spirit
ease my mind
and free my thoughts

but today I struggle to
find comfort here

worry fills my head
a jumble of concern
and cluttered words

as I sit disheartened
the warmth of the sun
peeks through the treetops
and in the far off distance
I hear a train whistle

now watching leaves flutter
and squirrels chasing
from…

A Short Story About Yoga Pants

Was I wrong to change out of my yoga pants this morning?

Your opinion is appreciated.

In an effort to get back in shape, I’ve started a daily walking routine. I want to lose a few pounds, be healthier, and feel like my old self again. I’ve been fairly successful, too. Watching what I eat, not snacking, and walking a few miles a day has paid off with the loss of 10+ pounds over the past 3 months.

So, this morning I thought I’d try on my old yoga pants. You know the kind. Black, stretchy material that fits snuggly…

Poetry Sunday

I see hope in raindrops
and budding trees
in yellow daffodils
and puffy white clouds

I hold hope’s hand
as I walk to the park
with my grandson

I hear hope in laughter
as my fingers trace
the soft cheek
of my new granddaughter

I taste hope in a meal
prepared with love
and shared with family

I feel hope in the jab
of a vaccination
and in the eyes
of masked strangers

I see hope everywhere
so let’s you and me
each grab a piece

there’s hope enough to share

This poem is my last piece with P.S. I…

RANT

or I’m Not Worthy Times Two

I’ll lay this out right from the start, I’m not worthy of $500 from Medium. I wasn’t worthy in the first round and apparently, I’m not worthy in the second round either.

I feel like a loser times two. L x 2 = me

The thing that gets me is this, from what I can tell Medium doled out this extra money to people who are already successful! I mean, why don’t they spread the love a bit. It would be great encouragement for folks who have a decent amount of engagement, but whose monthly Medium earnings have never topped…

No Thanks

I heard you were having a party.
A pity party.

I won’t be going.
Thanks but no thanks.
Gonna pass.

I considered it.
For about a minute.
Maybe less.

The last pity party you had
wasn’t fun at all.
So, lesson learned.

Word is, you invited some friends
and a few family members.
God only knows why
anyone would go.

I mean seriously.
Why would anyone
subject themselves to that?

Most of them have been to
one or two of your
pity parties before.

Baffled, I shake my head.
What could be gained
by going to another?

Dirt? Gossip?
A…

“You Suck”

At this time I’d like to address a short message to my muse.

“You suck.”

I thought the role of a muse was to be inspiring. By inspiring, I mean in a positive and good way. My understanding may be totally off the mark. But, the following definition seems pretty positive. Don’t you think?

Muse: a person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist. To call someone a Muse means that this person inspires, motivates, and encourages an artist to produce work, hopefully of excellence. …
